Setup steps, troubleshooting guidance, and practical notes for the Aion Web Clipper Chrome extension.

1. First-time setup

  1. Install the extension.
  2. Open the extension popup and click 去 Aion 连接.
  3. Sign in to Aion if needed.
  4. The Aion settings page will create a dedicated Web Clipper token and write it back to the extension.
  5. Return to any article page and click 收进队列.

2. How selected-text mode works

If you highlight any non-empty selection before opening the popup, the extension prefers saving the selected text. If there is no selection, the extension uses page capture mode instead.

3. Bookmark sync

Bookmark sync is optional and only watches new bookmarks added to the explicit Aion folder after you enable it.

  • the extension requests bookmark permission only when you enable this feature
  • older bookmarks are not imported on first enable
  • if the Aion folder is deleted, sync will pause until you reconnect it

4. Common problems

The extension says it is not configured.

Open the popup settings and run one-click connect again. If you are not signed in to Aion, sign in first on the Aion settings page.

Saving the page fails.

Confirm that the Aion web app is reachable and that the extension still has a valid Web Clipper token. Reconnect the extension if needed.

Selected text was not detected.

Highlight the text first, then open the popup. The current behavior only requires a non-empty selection, but the popup still needs to open after the selection already exists on the page.

The popup only offers link capture.

Browser-internal pages such as chrome://, extension pages, and the Chrome Web Store cannot be scripted. On those pages the extension intentionally falls back to saving only the title and URL.

Bookmark sync does not move anything into Aion.

Make sure bookmark sync is enabled, the bookmark was added after setup, and it was added to the Aion folder rather than another folder.

5. Security notes

  • only connect the extension from the official Aion settings page
  • do not paste your Web Clipper token into unrelated sites or forms
  • revoke the token in Aion settings if you think it was exposed
